Margarita is a young miserable typist because she thinks she is ugly. Not only that, she is run over by a car, leaving her disfigured. She subjects herself to a plastic surgery that turns her into the most beautiful and adored woman. However, her unhappiness does not go away since her relationships with the opposite sex stay problematic and conflictive.
RELEVANT FACTS: The play’s theme is very a very current one, it has big esthetic and psychologic possibilities given that it deals with the personality and beauty. A TV adaptation was made in 1981.
The author won the National Literature Prize in 1952 and the National Cinema Prize. He himself made cinematographic versions of his work. All his plays have audiovisual possibilities since part of his skills were developed in Hollywood side by side with some of the greatest, such as Charles Chaplin. He was a screenwriter and an expert in dialogues for Metro Goldwyn Mayer.
