155, Simon Radowitzky

A fierce struggle for ideals.

Simón Radowitzky, a young Ukrainian anarchist, fled in 1908 from Russian repression to take refuge in Argentina. Soon after settling in, Simón assassinated the bloodthirsty Buenos Aires police chief responsible for the massacre of workers known as “La Semana Roja” (Red Week).

He served a sentence of 21 years in the Ushuaia prison. 21 years of beatings and tortures that he carried with determination and tireless fighting spirit. He never gave up and was the only escape from that prison until then, but his freedom did not last long, as he was imprisoned again.

His cause became a worldwide rallying cry and, when he was finally released, his commitment to freedom and social justice led him to travel to Spain to fight in the Civil War on the Republican side.

Simón was an unwavering idealist who became an icon in Argentina and a symbol of anarchism for the whole world. After so many battles, he ended up as a refugee in Mexico. He edited several magazines for the movement and worked in a toy factory until he died of a heart attack in the late 1950s.

What the critics have said:

“It is a monumental work, well executed, with a script without loopholes, illustrations that respond to the purpose of captivating the reader while directing you emotionally. You feel the cold, the calamities, the injustices. Few comics have impacted me as much as this one, perhaps because of the story itself, brutal, disheartened.” Amazon

“Biography of the anarchist Simón Radowitzky, a born fighter with a life like a movie.” Goodreads

“The story of Simón Radowitzky is one of those worth telling. Passionate, tragic, self-sacrificing, with the goal of fighting for his ideas for a better world.” Goodreads
