When darkness illuminates the murderer
Brenda, the main character, is a prostitute with a past full of glamour and luxury; the story takes place in a reality of the illegality, where the characters have lost the harmony with their own world and therefore decided to cling to the night as a sign of being in the disagreement.
All crimes seem to have the same characteristics: they’re committed at night, in the same scenery, in the same city, and involving a knife that cuts the victims’ heads. Victims belong to a criminal environment. In Bad night, the objective isn’t only to discover the murderer, this investigation is an excuse to explore the city’s nightlife. The beheaded women were known by their nicknames: Trini, Yoli… together with Brenda, the story’s main character, they represent all the experiences of certain social group related to the noir genre. Brenda tells in first person her own story. She was a rich woman that gave up everything in order to look for her son that got lost when he was only a teenager. So Brenda is also carrying her own investigation.
RELEVANT FACTS: Bad Night transfers the reader into the sordid world of a city at night, with the ingredients of eroticism and intrigue. The night’s regime is complex, with its violence, destruction, moral annihilation and death. The novel plays with the configuration of western and black novel, having an unexpected finale and well elaborated characters, looking for answers.
