Iberian Crimes (Crímenes ibéricos)

A dark chronicle that surpases any fiction.

“Iberian Crimes”, based on the successful podcast of the same name coordinated by Joan Prats, presents ten real cases that have marked the Spanish crime scene. These stories, written with addictive and well-documented prose, offer an in-depth analysis of some of the country’s most shocking crimes, investigated by expert criminologists and forensic scientists.

One of the most notable cases is that of the crossbow killer, Andrés Rabadán. In 1994, 21-year-old Rabadán killed his father by shooting him with a crossbow at their home in Palafolls. This tragic event led to the discovery that Rabadán had also sabotaged several commuter trains in the Maresme, causing derailments without fatalities. During his time in prison, Rabadán was diagnosed with paranoid delusional schizophrenia.

Another impactful case is the murder of Carmen Broto in 1940, a well-known madam in Barcelona who was brutally killed in a crime that shocked society at the time. The investigation revealed a web of jealousy and betrayal that ultimately led to the conviction of her murderers.

The disappearance of Sara García in El Ejido is another highlighted case. Sara vanished without a trace after leaving work, initiating one of the most complex investigations in the region in recent years. Despite police efforts, her whereabouts remain unknown.

The case of Alejandro Javier Rodríguez and Luna Sofía Valeri is particularly gruesome. This couple, along with their twelve-month-old son, was murdered, and their bodies were burned in a doorway in Puente de Vallecas. This brutal crime left a deep mark on society and led to an exhaustive investigation that revealed chilling details about the motives and methods of the killer.

The massacre of the Vázquez family in Puerto Hurraco, perpetrated by brothers Antonio and Emilio Izquierdo, is one of the bloodiest cases in recent Spanish history. In 1990, these brothers opened fire on their neighbors, killing nine people and injuring many more, in an act of revenge for family disputes that had lasted for years.

The role-playing game killer is another case that stands out for its peculiarity and brutality. This crime, inspired by role-playing games and committed by a young man obsessed with them, led to the murder of a classmate, revealing the influence of the games on the disturbed mind of the killer.

The sewer murder in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which occurred in 1899, is a historical case that continues to fascinate and be studied. This murder, involving the discovery of a woman’s body in a sewer, uncovered a series of intrigues and conspiracies that shook Canarian society at the time.

The murder of two elderly women at the Alcalá de Henares Hospital by Beatriz López, a nursing assistant, is another highlighted case. This crime, committed by someone the victims trusted, caused great shock and led to a thorough review of hospital security protocols.

This book not only describes the events in detail but also provides criminal analysis by specialists such as Antonio Sanz and María Hernández, who bring their expertise in criminology and forensic sciences to unravel each of these chilling cases.
