The Time of the Beasts (El tiempo de las fieras)

When neither good nor evil exist, our actions define who we are.

A mysterious hitman hides on an islet off the Venezuelan coast, but the betrayal of someone he thought was close reveals his whereabouts to his former boss, El Oso Dávila, the head of a Mexican cartel.

El Oso Dávila threatens to kill his sister and nephew, with whom he has had no contact for thirty years. The hitman recalls that night in 1976 when he committed his first murder and how he gradually became involved in that world. Thus, he is forced to accept a job to prevent his family’s death. He must execute Vesna, a 19-year-old Bosnian hacker, and recover a USB drive containing sensitive material about an anonymous client who has hired the cartel.

The hitman must go to Lanzarote, Spain, to complete his mission. But he is not the only assassin on the island during those days. Someone else is after the girl, hired by a secret client who also wants to prevent certain information from coming to light. The bloody trail of bodies left by the other hitman on the island endangers the mission.

Gradually, it is revealed that the clients who ordered the assassination are connected to a sinister episode of the Balkan War in the ’90s, when a group of billionaires paid exorbitant amounts to practice “target shooting” on civilians in Sarajevo.

The protagonist’s new mission, while traveling through countries such as Venezuela, Italy, the United States, and Mexico, will lead him to encounter a series of characters from his past who are trying to rebuild their lives.
