The play dramatizes two epic moments in the history of the city of Alicante: one during the 19th century (after the victory of Ferdinand VII’s absolutism in 1823); and the other, during the last moths of the Spanish Civil War. Lluís, a republican intellectual, is the author of a romantic drama that shows how his antecessor was a liberal hero during Ferdinand VII’s reign. However, reality is very different: both were cowards.
