Two petty robbers plan to rob a small tobacco shop in a poor neighborhood of a big city. The shop owner reacts defiantly, leading to the situation in which she and her niece are taken hostage. The police show up and start pressuring for surrender. Meanwhile, inside the shop, the confrontation between the robbers and hostages starts to fade; they even begin to like each other.
RELEVANT FACTS: This play maintains great popular and critical acclaim; it has been successively produced since its premiere in 1981. It became even more famous after the movie of the same name, directed by Eloy de la Iglesia in 1987.
José Luis Alonso de Santos has received numerous prizes for his work as a writer and as a director such as the National Theatre Prize and the MAX Theatre Award. He is presently the most acclaimed playwright in Spain and outside of Spain.
