A convoluted love story
Fernando is a young man from wealthy family origins who has fallen in love with Toña, the beautiful family’s housekeeper. Their passion leads to the birth of a child. However, Fernando gives in to the family pressure and marries Laura, a girl of his same social status. She convinces Toña to let her child, Luis, be raised with his own legitimate children, Beba and Lalo.
Unfortunately, Laura dies when the kids are still young. On her deathbed, Laura entrusts her children to Toña, who comes back to the house. Their relationship does not change despite living under the same roof: he is just the master and she is only the housekeeper.
The story continues years later: the kids have become adults, and Fernando decides to marry again, with Isabel, younger than him and interested in his money. Isabel is welcomed as an intruder. Meanwhile, each of the siblings is involved in his own plot, which will be intertwined, putting into action important secondary characters.
Luis, the elder brother and Toña’s child, will not know the truth about his origins almost until the dénouement, when he could fight no longer against the attraction, camouflaged in hate, that he feels against his step mother. Besides, the issues between Fernando and Toña have to be resolved.
RELEVANT FACTS: The plot of the story is perfect for a soap opera in the style of “Downton Abbey”. It is a love story and a struggle in a rich household with a wide cast of characters between servants, lords, family friends and different generations. This play got adapted to a very successful Mexican film by Tito Davison. Torrado has had several plays adapted to cinema, by Luis Buñuel and Alazraki amongst others (“The Noble Family” achieved a box office record in Mexico and Latin America).
