Mercedes has just become a widow after Ramón’s death, with who she had been very unhappy. One day on a train, she encounters a fortune-teller. She reminds her that once she could have chosen another man and shows her how her life would have been if she had chosen that man. Is she still in time to change her fate? A love triangle where the main character attempts to rescue her “other” destiny, the one that could have been when she met both men and chose one that was not the best suited for her.
RELEVANT FACTS: The story begins during the main character’s youth and spreads throughout the years. The interesting audiovisual play and its high potential for dramatic amplification that offers Life on a Thread is based on the alternation between past and present between what was and what could have been (realities a priori non-discernable). A modern referent to this type of narration would be How I Met Your Mother, in which every episode is structured from present to past.
It was remade twice, as a Mexican film, La Engañadora, in 1955, directed by José Díaz Morales, and as a Spanish film titled Una mujer bajo la lluvia in 1992, directed by Gerardo Vega.
