A gripping eco-thriller set in the Peruvian Amazon, where a cameraman is murdered for exposing the environmental devastation caused by illegal mining in Madre de Dios. His wife and filmmaking partner, Marcela, won’t stop until she uncovers the truth behind his death.
Marcela—a film director—and her husband Esteban had been working on a documentary about the victims of illegal mining in Peru. The novel follows Marcela’s journey through deep grief while exposing a growing criminal network that spreads across the country, where illegal economies, backed by corrupt officials, ravage the environment and hire assassins to protect their operations.
Despite the dangers, Marcela decides to continue filming the documentary to honor her husband’s memory. With the help of a journalist and a former nun turned environmental activist, she embarks on a physical and emotional journey that forces her to confront her deepest fears and question the very meaning of faith. As she ventures deep into the Amazon, Marcela uncovers a shocking truth: the mercury from illegal mining hasn’t just poisoned the rivers—it has infiltrated the entire state system. But the final clue to identifying her husband’s killer lies within the footage they shot together, revealing that the murderer is much closer than she ever imagined.
