When Jose Centella is about to die, he tells the story of his life to a friend. His story begins after abandoning his home town as he travels to the Colombian jungle. There, he joins the guerrillas and the story takes us to its hidden camps. We will witness armed attacks, military courts, passionate loves and not less passionate jealousy, urban guerrillas and its tactics (seduction being one of them), until José Centella has to run away and change his identity. That is how he ends up as a debt collector and, later, as an important executive in a media enterprise. But the ghosts from his past refuse to disappear.
RELEVANT FACTS: Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón has written a funny and dramatic novel, with a contemporary antihero that goes from the remote jungle to the business jungle, a guerrilla soldier turned into a businessman.
Its author won the Herralde Novel Prize, one of the most prestigious in Spanish language prose fiction, awarded before to Javier Marías, Sergio Pitol and Roberto Bolaño.
