Carita rejects all the marriage candidates her godfather, a rich man, offers her because she already has a boyfriend. Filled with resentment, he modifies his will so that the three million she would inherit go to her only after becoming a widow. Facing this situation, Carita decides to marry a poor dying man expecting to receive soon the inheritance. However, Carita’s new husband miraculously recovers and dedicates his time to take advantage from the family as much as he can.
RELEVANT FACTS: It was made into a movie in Mexico in 1940 by Chano Urueta. In 1963, it was adapted to the TVE programs, “Primera Fila”, in 1981 to Estudio 1, and in 1997 to “Pasen y vean”.
Arniches was part of the brilliant Generation of ’98, and comedies were his specialty. Many of his plays were adapted to cinema.
