The first book, Ladrones de Tinta (Thieves of Ink), is set in 1614 Madrid. Ten years have passed since Fernando Robles published The Ingenious Nobleman Sir Quixote of La Mancha, an immediate success. However, an impostor called Alonso Fernández de Avellaneda has published a sequel. Robles hires Isidoro Montemayor to investigate the case, which will result in an adventure full of envies and conspiracies within the nobility.
The second book, El gabinete de las maravillas (The Chamber of Wonders), is set right after Montemayor solves the Quixote case. The archivist of the Marquess of Horancho is found dead under strange circumstances inside the Chamber of Wonders, to which only the Marquess himself has access. This room is full of wonderful, strange and luxurious objects: elephant tusks, invaluable paintings, a unicorn’s horn, a mermaid’s hand. Isidro Montemayor will substitute the dead archivist, and he will also be in charge of solving the mystery.
The third book, El reino de los hombres sin amor (The Kingdom of the Loveless Men), is set in 1615. A double marriage is about to unite the Spanish and French crowns. Meanwhile, Isidoro Montemayor, secretary and secret lover of the Countess of Cameros, is involved in a silver smuggling affair, which becomes a threat and a complete torment to him and his lover.
RELEVANT DATA: All the books in this saga have been bestsellers from the moment of publication. Ladrones de tinta is the winner of the Novela Histórica Ciudad de Zaragoza International Award and the Novela Histórica Espartaco Award, and it has been translated into Italian and French.
El gabinete de las maravillas is the winner of the Novela Histórica Espartaco Award and runner up to the Violeta Negra de Toulouse Award, and it has been translated into French.
The whole series is a work that depicts the Spanish Golden Age in art, but also a nation marked by corruption and thirst for power.
