Mercedes is a wealthy woman who shares her boring life with her husband Lorenzo and the servants Teresa, Rosaura and Renato, in a villa on the outskirts. One night, Mercedes has a strange dream in which a married couple, accompanied by a Native American, burst into their home claiming that it is their own home, refusing to leave and threatening to call the police if Mercedes does not leave. In the dialogue that is established, the marriage acknowledges having murdered his previous wife. Upon awakening, Mercedes realizes that the married man of the dream is none other than her own husband. A few days later, Lorenzo hires a secretary, Miss Raquel, to help him in a timely job. Mercedes discovers terrified that Raquel is the woman of the dream. Soon after, appears Norton, the client of her husband, that turns out to be the Native American of the dream. Mercedes confesses Norton her nightmare and, in turn, he admits that on that same date he dreamed with Mercedes. Is Lorenzo capable to murder his wife, only to marry his secretary, like it happened in the dream?
RELEVANT FACTS: This suspense story, in the style of classic black comedy, brings together the following ingredients: black humor, passion, infidelity, dreams and two characters who guess the future. Its popularity gave place to the movie of the same name directed by the Mexican Tito Davison in 1953.
Mihura, a playwright, journalist and screenwriter, is considered the main inventor of the Theatre of the Absurd, and the most outstanding comedian in Spanish language through the 20th century. Mihura wrote the scripts of more than twenty-five movies, among which stands out “Welcome Mr. Marshall”, film directed by Luis García Berlanga in 1952.
