Reason breeds madness.
In present-day Paris, Pichón Garay receives a hard disk with a manuscript -he does not know if it is real or fictitious- of a 19-year-old psychiatrist who, at the beginning of the 19th century, embarked on a great adventure.
Argentina, 1804. Dr. Real -author of the manuscript-, together with his teacher, Dr. Weiss, founded a psychiatric clinic in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Dr. Real will travel from Santa Fe in a caravan of thirty-six people: madmen, prostitutes, gauchos and an escort of soldiers. They will cross the Pampa, braving all kinds of obstacles, including the great floods caused by the overflowing of the Paraná River, hostile Indians and a threatening fire.
A brilliant tragicomedy starring a large number of patients with all kinds of madness. An Epic in which Juan José Saer captures all the elements that characterize his majestic writing.
RELEVANT DATA: Juan José Saer is the successor of Jorge Luis Borges par excellence. He is a prestigious author and winner of many awards, such as the Nadal Novel Award.
What the critics have said:
“To say that Saer is the best Argentine writer today is a way of belittling his work. It would be accurate to say, to be more precise, that Saer is one of the best writers today in any language.” Ricardo Piglia
“What Saer presents so majestically is the experience of reality, and the characters’ attempt to write their own stories…” Bookforum
“Juan José Saer’s works define one of the central paths of renewal in Argentine literature, after Jorge Luis Borges”. Muchnik Ediciones
