How to turn a fairy tale into a story of monsters
The outside world takes place in Medellin. There, the time comes wrapped in a haze, and the voices seem whistles that are lost between the branches. A kind of castle can be glimpsed in the leafy outskirts and through the door runs a blonde girl. A pair of eyes look captivated by the presence as the unusual girl disappears into the forest.
In 1971, the father of the young girl, Don Diego, has been kidnapped by a gang of slum kids. The Monkey is the ringleader of the criminals, whose intention is to ask a millionaire ransom to the family. The Monkey has other reasons than the economic ones to hijack don Diego: He has amorous obsessions with his daughter, Isolda, a blond princess whose father, a Wagner opera lover, maintains enclosed in the “castle” to preserve her purity and avoid the contagion with the dirty world that surrounds them. Don Diego is a German lover and he is married with Dita, a German woman who left the Nazi Berlin to live in the copy of the castle of The Rochefoucauld that her husband has built in Medellin. Since an early age, Isolda has taken the habit to escape to the forest, where she used to play with rabbits, and the Monkey admired her perched in the trees.
