Eulalia and Eufrasio are opportunist delinquents who take the young orphan girl Guadalupe into their house in order to use her for their tricks. But Guadalupe runs away from them with their cat and goldfinch and finds a job in the house of a well-off family where she befriends the family’s daughter. Now the young orphan, after discovering her friend’s future husband is not as good person as he seems, will have to face a dilemma: tell her friend the truth about her fiancée, or stay quiet and let things go as they were.
RELEVANT FACTS: The play has been adapted to cinema three times: in 1927 in Spain by Antonio Calvache; in 1943, by Ramón Quaderny; and in 1964, by Clemente Pamplona.
Arniches was part of the brilliant Generation of ’98, and comedies were his specialty. Many of his plays were adapted to cinema.
