Nadia Ghulam is an Afghan writer living in Catalunya, Spain. When she was only eight years old, her house was destroyed by a bomb. She spent six months in a coma in a hospital, and she has been through 14 operations. Her face was disfigured.
After the Talibans took Kabul, Nadia decided, when she was 11 years old, to dress up as a boy and to adopt the identity of her deceased brother to be able to go out of the house alone and work to help her family.

Together with Agnès Rotger she won the Premio Prudenci Bertrana for her work The Secret of my Turban (El secreto de mi turbante), a novel that tells the true story of her life in Kabul.
