A marriage, a desolate place, and a scientific discovery interrupted by an unknown threat.
Sonia and Juan are two recently married physicists who come to the space research facility on the island of La Palma to carry out an important investigation. They have been selected to use one of the most important telescopes of the station and are about to fulfill their dream: finding the so-called Dark Matter and giving a new meaning to the universe.
To carry out the investigation, they will have to confine themselves in the station’s facilities, disconnected from the outside, without cell phones and where the only way to communicate is a landline that connects with the neighboring telescope.
Alone in the station, Sonia and Juan spend their days, but things start to go wrong when Juan begins to behave strangely. One night while sleepwalking, he claims to be someone else. As the days go by, this personality, who calls himself Robert, begins to take over Juan’s body, something that Sonia discovers at first with astonishment, but little by little she begins to feel attracted to him.
The couple enters an increasingly dangerous spiral where days of hard work give way to nights filled with daydreaming, sex, and confusion.
Sonia watches her husband’s behavior anxiously, though what really worries her is that she keeps a secret: when she was a little girl, her father transformed himself once or twice a month into a terrifying monster and brutally raped her and her mother. Shortly after, her and her mother had gone into hiding and her father decided to commit suicide.
The shadows of the past and the present intermingle, but that does not prevent Sonia from carrying out research with brilliant results, even winning a Nobel Prize.
