A woman from the poor Spanish countryside sends her 15-year-old daughter to Argentina during the Peronist years. She wants to save her from her misery and promises her that the whole family will follow her. Something goes wrong though, and no one comes: the girl is left trapped in a hostile country, where she grows up, gets married, struggles her fate and suffers from the cruelest exile. Years pass and she overcomes her suffering, becomes Argentinean. Then, her children and grandchildren tell her they want to move to Spain and run away from the economic depression, and then everything starts all over again.
